HEAVEN’S PASSAGE
(For Umar Shola Bakare)

We shall
One day
Tiptoe
As a gentle walking shadow
On virgin path
Where
Cherry trees dance like
Gentle Daffodils on ancient Okun*
There,
Sorrow smiles not
I say,
We shall live
Like ageless heaven
In company of our forebears
True!
We shall
One day
Kick the shroud
——-
Okun*: An ancient River

OSUN RIVER

The Sleepless Goddess
Beneath your watery feet
I stand
Questing for your praise…
Osun!
Aged
Yet,
Beautiful
As rainbow
Of twilight

WE DWELL IN HER WOMB

We are living
Also,
Wandering
In her concave womb
As prodigal

We bend
To her sway
Like prostrated trees
In an uncombed bush
A smile she takes
Upon
Our abode
Yes,
She hushes us
Sadden bliss
Life!
Your art is cruel
