A major bid to internationalize Nigerian contemporary poetry is the recent joining of the World Poets' Society(A literary organization of contemporary poets from all over the world),which at the last count(May, 2008),has seven hundred and seventeen members from one hundred countries,by some Nigerian contemporary Poets. The society is made up of Poets who write in major languages of the World.

Nigerian contemporary Poets who have so far joined the Society(May, 2008), are:

(1)Chigbo Okoli,
(2)Emeka Chike Nwogu,
(3)Ibukun Abraham Lawore,
(4)Chidi Anthony Opara,
(5)Ignatius Chibuzo Achilefu,
(6)Nnamdi Ofili,
(7)Odimegwu Onwumere,
(8)Olufemi Lawore,
(9)Oluseyi Adewale Adekoya,
(10)Olutayo K. Osunsan,
(11)Osumune John Chinedu,
(12)Oyeleye Damilola,
(13)Ugokwe Emmanuel Chima.

The Greece based World Poets' Society was formed in 2006, with the following goals:

(1)The promotion of contemporary poetry from all around the World.
(2)The execution of poetry convention and symposium.
(3)The publishing of anthologies by our members.
(4)The publishing of poetry magazine.
(5)The awarding of poetry prizes.
