I just wrote a test this afternoon for a course titled ' Introduction to African Literature' and that was the question asked.
The bone of contention is this:
Can African Literature truly be called African when it is written in a foreign language?
How accurately can you express African worldviews and cosmology in a foreign language?( Given the Sapir-Whorf hypothesis which states that language determines worldview)
Isn't the usage of a foreign language a sad but constant reminder of our colonialist heritage?
