Since the announcement of the demise of one of our
icons and fathers, Chief Cyprian Ekwensi, the
Association Of Nigerian Authors has urged its members
to celebrate and not mourn the passing of this great
man of letters.

This admonition was borne out of the fact that apart
from living to a very ripe age, COD also left behind
a worthy literary legacy which will be difficult to
surpass. In addition, our distinquished father left
behind a host of biological offsprings as well as
numerous legartees who hopefully, will continue his
well horned tradition of masterful story telling
ability.

Today, as his body is being interned, we join his
numerous family members, friends and associates to pay
homage to this great son of Nigeria who in the true
sense, was a real Nigerian.

Chief Ekwensi, though from the South East Zone was
born and nurtured in the Middle Belt zone of the
country, schooled and was later honored with a
Chieftaincy title in the South West Zone. He was at
various times, a Forester, Pharmacist, Writer and
Journalist. With this background, it is our belief
that his life is worth celebrating.

In order to immotalise him, the ANA has concluded
plans with PEN International Nigerian Section to
reproduce a special recording of the life and times of
this great writer for distribution to schools and
Libraries all over the country. It is also our plan to
name parts of the proposed Writers Village in Abuja
after him.

We continue to pray that the good lord will console
his family, relations and friends and rest the soul of
this great man.
