THEME: Edemede 2007 A Walk Through The Ages…!

AWARD OF ANA ENUGU/ CHINUA ACHEBE PRIZE FOR LITERARY EXCELLENCE
PROGRAMME:
DAY 1: Friday 16 November 2007
Time: 10 am
Venue: Main Hall, College of Immaculate Conception (C. I. C.), Uwani Enugu
Features: Literary (Short Story and Poetry) award of Prizes for Students of Secondary Schools in Enugu State. Public Readings of winning entries.
Also, Drama Presentation by students and Lecture to be delivered by Mrs. May Okoye

Details: Edemede 2007 is a literary event with a specific goal at linking the old and new generation Nigerian writers. The prizes are instituted in honour of eminent Nigerian writers. The prizes are

Ana Enugu Short Story Prize for Senior Schools in Honour of Chimamanda Adichie
Ana Enugu Akuko N’igbo Prize for Junior Schools in Honour of Late Tony Uchenna Ubesie
Ana Enugu Akuko N’igbo Prize for Senior Schools in Honour of Chukwuemeka Ike
Ana Enugu Poetry Prize for Junior School in Honour of Anezi Okoro
Ana Enugu Poerty Prize for Senior School in Honour of Late Ezenwa Ohaeto
The organisers hope to achieve a literary balance between the old and the contemporary versions of literature in Nigerian. This Programme aims to ignite the reading and writing talents of Nigerian children, hence the need for their active participation in the event.
Secondary schools in Enugu State are being mobilized to take part in the convention.

DAY 2: Saturday 17 November 2007.
Sub-theme: Egwu Mgbede- an evening of Igbo Cultural Entertainment where different aspects of traditional entertainment would feature.
Time: 5 pm
Venue: Peekay Garden, Byron Onyeama close, opposite New Haven Primary School, Upper Chime, New Haven, Enugu.
Features: Musical and theatrical entertainments, Literary readings, Tripartite couples quiz competition, Ilu (a contest on Igbo proverbs).
Major event: award of ANA ENUGU/ CHINUA ACHEBE PRIZE FOR LITERARY EXCELLENCE (this award is open to authors of unpublished novels and short stories)
The event would also feature book exhibition, Merit Awards anda lecture to be delivered by Prof. Ukwu. I.Ukwu, a distinguished Economist, writer and eminent member of the association.
