Igoni Barrett, author of ‘From Caves of Rotten Teeth,’ has come a long way since he moved from Ibadan to Lagos in 2007.
Although the 30-year-old loves the city, he feels differently about its hustle and bustle when he needs to write. He recently resigned his editorial job at Farafina Magazine, to devote more time to his writing.
Chatting with NEXT about this and other developments, Barrett reveals that he has been working on a new collection of short stories which he hopes to publish soon.
“I’ve been working on the collection for the past four years and I initially thought one of the stories I’m including will be my first novel but it has ended up a very long short story. So, I’m working on other stories to make up a collection which I hope to finish soon.”
Barrett says he requires quiet, peace and lots of utilisable time for writing. “I was not working when I wrote my first collection of short stories, I was living in the village at that time and I was not doing anything but writing,” he says.
