Laugh all you like, but I love reading children's books now. Thanks to my kids, Nife and Fife. They don't go to sleep until we've read 4 titles each night, so we have read hundreds of new and old titles. (Unfortunately, I don't get enough books by African authors around here).
So, which titles are my favourite? Let me list 'em.
The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein is up there.
So is Cloudy with a chance of meatballs. Beautiful book.
All the Dr. Seus books are in their collection of course. All! Read often! :)
Then Margie Pallatini is another gifted one. All her books are fun.
Ah, don't laugh at me o. It takes a special kind of truth of the spirit to write good children's books. And when you read them, it can help keep your language accessible without it lacking depth. I know I may write something for my kids someday...I even discussed with the painter, Sanya Ojikutu, about the possibility of illustrating it...
