The Association of Nigerian Authors/Chevron Prose Prize on Environmental Issues awarded annually at the International Convention of the Association, amidst other coveted prizes of the Association, has had its cash prize increased from the sum of N100,000 to $2000. In a letter to the Association,dated 10th August, 2009 and signed by O. A Odumabo, General manager, Policy,Government and Public Affairs, Chevron Nigeria Limited stated that the increase should take effect from the 2009 award.

The prize is dedicated to encouraging writers to focus more on the environment in their writings. In the recent years the Prize has been won by the following writers: Aliyu Kamal with The Fire Next Time (2005), no award in 2006, Kaine Agary,Yellow Yellow(2007), Odili Ojubuonu, Treasure in the Winds (2008).Chevron also sponsored a workshop on environmental writing for writers under the auspices of the Association,which held in Lagos in 2007.

This year's award winner would be announced among other prizes at the 28th international convention of the Association scheduled for Minna, Niger State from 29th October-1st November, 2009 with the theme Literature, Leadership Development and Good Governance.
