PRESS RELEASE
ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIAN AUTHORS CELEBRATES BAYO FALETI
In continuation with her resolve to promote writing in the indigenous languages and celebrate living icons of our literary and cultural heritage, The Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA)in collaboration with Leads University, Ibadan, Oyo State is set to hold a one-day National Symposium on Writing in the Indigenous Languages:A Celebration of the Works of Bayo Faleti on the 13th of August, 2009 at the premises of Leads University, Ibadan.
ANA decided to celebrate Bayo Faleti as a living legend for his over three decades contribution to the development of Yoruba language and literature as reflected in his many works cutting across the various literary genres such as Won Ro Pe Were Ni, Fere Bi Ekun, Basorun Gaa, Magun, Omo Olokun Esin etc. Alagba Bayo Faleti writings are considered masterpieces by scholars of Yoruba literature and greatly appreciated for showcasing the living cultures of the Yorubas. His writings are also regarded as containing vibrant dosage of social realism, a step away from the mythical and magical literary predilections of pioneers of Yoruba literature such as D O Fagunwa. This has made Bayo Faleti’s works valuable resource base for many chart-bursting films in the Yoruba film industry. The thrust behind ANA’s decision to celebrate the works of yet another great upholder of indigenous literature, after the Abubakar Imam international colloquium which held in
July 2009 at the Kaduna State University, is to encourage upcoming writers who are writing or may wish to write in the indigenous languages.
