Dear Prof,
As the founding President of The Association Of Nigerian Authors, your position in history as a leading light of Nigerian Literature has already been assured. When you add to this your enviable track record in Literature, The Humanities and Politics, you have moved to that rare and priveledged status of a sage. To cap all these achievements with the recently endowed Man-Booker Prize is a further testimony of your versatility and scholarship. Yours is a further testimony to the fact that the best image makers for Nigeria are not expensive Pubic Relations Experts. Neither are they our Politicians for where politics corrupts, arts cleanses. Our positive and laudable achievements have been carried out by our dedicated crop of Academicians, Sportsmen and Women as well as our Artists.
When taken together with Chimamanda Adichie's brilliant performance at the 2007 Orange BroadBand Competition, yours is also a confirmation of the fact that with the appropriate environment, besides crude oil and soccer players, Literature can also be a good foreign exchange earner for the country. It is our hope that before long, our leaders will consider it fit and proper to at least acknowledge these worthy and highly commendable Literary feats.
On behalf of Members of The Association Of Nigerian Authors, I wish to congratulate you on the recent Man-Booker Award. Our prayer is that like good wine, you will continue to get better and better with age.
Very Sincerely.
Wale Okediran
ANA President
