I am delighted to announce the publication of a new book, Eko O Nii Baje by Nelson Publishers Ltd in collaboration with Evans Brothers (Nigeria) Publishers Ltd, Jericho Road, Ibadan.

Eko O Nii Baje is a collection of nine engaging short stories by contemporary Nigerian authors on the ‘challenges, the fun and the excitement of living in a mega city’. The 163 page book includes stories by Ifeoma Chinwuba, Tolu Ogunlesi, Patrick Tagbo Oguejiofor, Felix Abraham Obi, Spencer Okoroafor, Onyebuchi Nwosu, Chinyere Obi-Obasi, Obinna Nwachukwu and Paul Olorunmota. In the words of the publishers, Eko O Nii Baje ‘is a collection of stories about life and living in Lagos- the most populous city in Africa and the world’s fastest-growing mega city. Seen from different perspectives by different writers, each writer has painted his/her own view of Lagos in scintillating prose.’

The Abuja Branch of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) has concluded arrangements with the publishers for a formal presentation and public reading of this exciting book. The event will feature a review of the book by Dr. E. E. Sule of the Department of English, Nassarawa State University, Keffi, Nassarawa State.

Top literary dignitaries expected to grace the special occasion include Hon. (Dr.) Wale Okediran, National President, Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA), Alhaji Abubakar Gimba, a one time ANA National President. The occasion will be chaired by Hon. (Dr.) Ihechukwu C. Madubuike, foremost author, literary critic and former Minister of Education of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The occasion will feature readings from the book by some of the contributors as well as autographing of purchased copies by the authors.
The grand event is billed to hold as follows:
DATE: Thursday, 26th March, 2009

VENUE: Cyprian Ekwensi Centre for Arts and Culture (former Cultural Centre), Area 10, Garki, Opposite Lozumba Plaza, Abuja, FCT, Nigeria.

TIME: 4:00 pm

The Abuja Branch of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) wishes to use this opportunity to extend her heartfelt gratitude to Nelson Publishers Ltd and Evans Brothers Nigerian Publishers for featuring her members in the new anthology and for giving modern Nigerian literature a big boost. It is our hope that other regular publishing houses in Nigeria will emulate this worthy example. May we also use this occasion to suggest that regular Publishers of school text books should set aside a percentage of their profits for the publication of literary works as this will provide opportunities for Nigerian writers to practice their trade and contribute to National development.

Thank you and God bless.
