Abuja Literary Society (ALS) Hosts Ahmed Maiwada to a Reading from Fossils @ The British Council

Fossils, a second collection of poems publication of the widely acclaimed author, poet, essayist and literary critic, Ahmed Maiwada, by Hybun Publications International will be the centre of attracton for writers and literary enthusiats as the poet takes the centre stage at The British Councils, Maitama District office by 4.00p.m. on Friday, 28th November, 2008.

The event which has already began to generate heated but healthy debate in literary circles is being organised by the Abuja Literary Society (ALS) in conjunction with Hybun Readers Club, to promote and encourage reading in the country.

In the words of Ken Ike Okere, the ALS Slam Master, 'this is only one of our several ways of supporting a robust reading and literary culture in our society. We have very many other such activies, some of which we have recently unveiled and are running already, and some others that will be unveil ed soon'. Speaking further, he said 'ALS has been in the forefront of the promotion of a literary culture since 1999. Its reading sessions hold three times a month'.

Ahmed Maiwada is no stranger to the literary community. His first book, Saint of a Woman, also a collection of poems, released in 2004 by Hybun Publications International, raised the tempo of literary dscourse at the time, as critics took the book aside, piece by piece, evaluating the literary value of every part of his craftmanship, and in the end, came up with the verdict, a star, a bold new voice is born, who can hold up his own cup!

No wonder, his two collections of poems, his only contributions to world literary discourse till date, published, have almost sold out, and his publishers, without hessitating have signed up his forthcoming title, Musdoki, a novel, due for release in the first quater of next year (2009).

Which part of this much hailed collection (Fossils), will Maiwada be reading from, on friday, 28, November, is the question on the lips of the literary community, today. Ofcourse the answer can only be had by 4pm., at he British Council, Maitama.
