Write a short story for radio and enter the 2010 Commonwealth Short Story Competition.

First prize of £2,000 and regional and special prizes of £500.

The Competition is open to anyone aged 19 or over who is a citizen of a Commonwealth country. Stories should be original, unpublished, written in English and no more than 600 words long. Only one entry may be submitted per person. Winning entries will be recorded onto CD and broadcast by radio stations across the Commonwealth.

The Baobab Prize is an annual award designed to encourage the writing of African literature for young readers. It has been birthed from a recognition of the dearth of fictional African literature that focuses on the youth and encourages them to explore and develop an interest and pride in the African continent.

The Lumina Foundation is a non-governmental, non-profit organization, founded in 2000 by Ogochukwu Promise to encourage development through erudition and charity for the edification of man. It is rooted in the principles of altruism and enlightenment. The word Luminous, which means giving out light, radiates the light of knowledge and divine wisdom which the Foundation seeks and transmits in order that many may benefit from it towards collective development at various levels.

The Macmillan Writer’s Prize for Africa is a biennial competition devoted to previously unpublished works of fiction by African writers, and aims to promote and celebrate story writing from all over the continent.

The prize is sponsored by Macmillan Education and focuses on the reading interests of children and young people. There are two awards for children’s literature and teenage fiction and an additional award for the best new children’s writer.

The Caine Prize for African Writing is named in memory of the late Sir Michael Caine, former Chairman of Booker plc. He was Chairman of Africa 95, and Chairman of the Booker Prize management committee for almost 25 years.

The four African winners of the Nobel Prize for Literature, Wole Soyinka, Nadine Gordimer, Naguib Mahfouz and John Coetzee are Patrons of The Caine Prize. Baroness Nicholson of Winterbourne is President of the Council and Jonathan Taylor is the Chairman.
