Ssemutooke Joseph Kitaka
I am a 24-year old Ugandan writer who has been underground for three years. Having spent the last three to four years writing for myself, I have decided to get some of my humble works out into the world. I studied Development Economics at Makerere University, but because the arts is my home I am currently a journalist (Features writer) with uganda's leading daily, The New Vison. Although I write a lot of prose, first and foremost I consider myself a poet - and at that my poetry is simple poetry addressing the simple, everyday aspects of life (it is not very elitist or educationist like most of the poetry from Africa).

The song of the fields is a silly wild cacophonyThe quiet of noon home a sombre frozen void
The radio is a distressing mad discordance
The screen a flurry of undefined absurd forms
The book shelves no more have the power to arrest
The writing gadgets no more the magic to release...
